October 2018 Workshop:
Training Principles for Specialty Coffee Professionals
This two day workshop is designed for coffee professionals seeking to improve their training skills in the coffee workplace. As coffee quality becomes increasingly important in specialty coffee service, training becomes a critical component of a company’s long term success. This course is designed to improve instructors’ content, delivery, and tracking of a trainee’s performance. The workshop will benefit any coffee professional seeking to learn or hone their training communication skills.
Over the two day workshop, students will learn to:
Describe characteristics of adult learners
Identify Learning Objectives and describe their purpose
Explain a trainer’s three primary roles before, during and after class delivery
Practice 6 key training skills
Administer training tracking, measure barista performance, and communicate training information
Students will also receive a complimentary copy of “Training Principles for Specialty Coffee Professionals” by Anne Nylander.
Anne F. Nylander will lead the workshop. Anne began creating coffee training content in 2008 and is one of the principle architects of the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s Barista Certificate program. In addition she managed the content and delivery of training for 150 employees at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting room from 2014-2016. Since her departure from Starbucks in 2016, Anne develops or provides training for clients around the world. She is based in Seattle, WA.
